Performance is not a dirty word; or for that matter it should not be feared by staff.

The key to getting your sales and/or marketing staff to perform well is to have a continual open dialogue on what the company's business goals are and especially what the company expects from them to help achieve the business goals.

Time to set some S.M.A.R.T objectives with them.

Specific - What staff are expected to achieve

Measurable - Explain how the achievements will be measured

Achievable - Are they achievable, but also challenging

Relevant - Do they help towards achieving the company goals

Timeline - Set a timeline for each individual's goals/achievements

In saying all of the above it is important to confirm that the staff understand the requirements and timeline. Periodical reviews should also take place to update staff on their progress.

Time to Get Smart!
